In-House Program

Hockey Skills Development

The Oakland
Junior Hockey Club offers a skills development program for boys and girls who
want to learn to play ice hockey.
The In-House/Skills Development program is designed to teach the
fundamental skills of hockey for those who want to improve their play, so
they can move on to our Travel program or just want to play for
recreation. The In-House program is
a non-contact program suitable for the beginning hockey player with no
hockey background, a player with limited hockey experience, or for roller
hockey players making the transition to ice and also experienced players
looking to improve their skills.
A primary objective
of the program is to have fun while learning the essential skills to play
ice hockey. The goal of the program
is to provide instruction on fundamental ice hockey techniques. All players will practice skating skills:
forwards, backwards, crossovers, edge work, and balance. Along with stick-handling, shooting,
passing and the general rules for your child to improve as a player to move
to the next level. The In-House
program is the primary source of players for the Oakland Bears Travel Team.
Each
session players will practice various drills to help improve their skills
and have small area games during most sessions. The In-House group will also have
occasional games against other in-house clubs. Oakland Bears In-House program requires
that players wear full hockey equipment.
New players are welcome to join anytime during the season.
