About Our Program
The Oakland Bears
Youth Hockey program is based out of the Oakland
Ice Center in Oakland, California;
you can visit the rink’s website at www.oaklandice.com. It is a two-sheet
facility that houses almost every on-ice activity there is available. The Bears program has been one of the top
competitive programs in NORCAL for the last ten years. Originally based in Berkeley, the
Bears have called the OIC home since 1997 and have seen many NorCal and
State level teams skate out of their program. Like the Bears program, the OIC has
received numerous awards over the years, including the “Best of The Bay,”
and we plan on winning more for the years to come.
The Bears program
provides an opportunity for kids to play the game of ice hockey and
experience one of the world’s coolest games. We have everything from beginner classes
to elite tournament teams that travel all over the country and Canada. The experiences these kids and families
have are carried with them throughout their lives, as are the friendships
made along the way. Most of the kids
that play here as a youth end up playing with the same teammates as they
get older and join the adult leagues we offer.
Our program is
intended to provide players an opportunity to experience the game at
whatever levels he/she and their family find comfortable. We can take someone in and teach them
everything they need to know or we can take someone in who’s played for
years and simply place them on a team.
We want to offer an environment that allows players and their
families to enjoy the game of ice hockey whether they want to play
recreationally or aspire to play professionally.
